Health and Human Services funds that support nursing education.

To increase the number of nurses with advanced degrees and to help improve the quality of care for elderly patients, The Department of Health and Human Services has released over $30 million in grants. $22 million will go to colleges, universities, and other organizations, while the remaining $8 million will be dispersed through the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program, which provides loan repayment to nurses who agree to work in critical nursing shortage areas. Talk to your Financial Advisor for more information.

Nurse Reinvestment Act Program Update

Nursing Scholarship Program Applications Available May 16, 2003

Applications for a new nursing scholarship program created under the Nurse Reinvestment Act will be available online beginning May 16, 2003. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) will accept applications for an estimated $3.8 million in nursing scholarships for fiscal year 2003 to be awarded through the Nursing Scholarship Program (NSP). Scholarship recipients must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing and agree to serve for at least two years at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. Applications are due by June 30 with awards to be made by September 30. Through this program, HRSA will award approximately 76 scholarships to qualified applicants. For more information, see http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fedreg/a030506c.html and scroll down to Health Resources and Services Administration. AACN will send out an announcement next week when the applications are posted on the Web.
